Essential Digital Resources - Part 1

Screaming frog is a site crawling tool that will analyse a website and identify a myriad of different issues with SEO and page errors. Need to see how many 404's your website has? Is your website missing h1 and h2 tags, what about 301's? How many images are un-optimized? This tool will give you all this information and so much more in a matter of minutes. Screaming frog is a real time saver for devs and testers and we heartily recommend it. The free version has a limit on the amount of pages it can crawl which is fine for smaller sites but with larger sites a license would be recommended.

Invision - https://www.invisionapp.com/

Invision is a great collaborative tool for sharing designs and gathering feedback and amends all in one place. An immensely useful application for visual projects with multiple team members, Invision allows you to present anything from wireframes and mobile designs to full site designs in a simple and clear way. We use Invision for almost all of our design projects and find it helps us a great deal in communicating ideas between different teams and clients.

Amy Jowett our Account Director swears by this tool for her client's projects throughout the entire UX and design process.

"Whether it's for presenting designs to clients for the very first time or for managing the in depth stakeholder feedback and amends loop, it keeps everything in order! I also love the way that design can be presented in situ within a desktop or mobile device to simulate how the final product could look".

Visual studio - https://code.visualstudio.com/

From Wikipedia "Visual Studio Code is a source-code editor developed by Microsoft for Windows, Linux and macOS. It includes support for debugging, embedded Git control and GitHub, syntax highlighting, intelligent code completion, snippets, and code refactoring. It is highly customizable, allowing users to change the theme, keyboard shortcuts, preferences, and install extensions that add additional functionality. The source code is free and open source and released under the permissive MIT License."

Jonathan Sedman Director of development at SteadyGo says: " Really good and fully featured code editor available for free. Very customisable and lots of extensions. Best one of its type on the market i'd say!"
