Helping Hertfordshire Growth Hub unlock the potential of Umbraco 9



Hertfordshire Growth Hub’s mission is to deliver growth across Hertfordshire, led by a consortium of business support experts pooling their knowledge to make it easier to start, and grow a business, creating a sustainable and inclusive local economy.

Hertfordshire Growth Hub is Hertfordshire LEP’s flagship business support service. Part of a powerful network of 38 Local Enterprise Partnership-led Growth Hubs across England.


We were asked to build them an entirely new site in Umbraco 9, which needed to give HGH the flexibility they needed to update content regularly, add events and news, and to track user engagement on the site to support their team of business advisors.

The Brief


  • Build a new website that had an easy to use content management system.
  • Include a registration process and login functionality for members and partners.
  • Restrict some content to registered users only.
  • Build a business questionnaire so registered users can provide more in-depth detail of their business to receive tailored support from HGH’s business advisors.
  • Ensure the user experience was positive by creating an easy to navigate website, in which information can be found quickly. 
  • Fit in with the Hertfordshire Growth Hub brand.


What we did 


At the beginning of the project, we did a requirement gathering sessions. This allowed us to dig deeper into the requirements of each user group of the website, understand why Hertfordshire needed and wanted a new website, and to understand design and functionality aspects required. This included engagement reports that HGH are required to provide to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.


We prioritised these requirements to create our must-have list of deliverables for the project and mapped these out into a project plan, allowing us to provide a more accurate estimate of the time required.


We worked very closely with the project team at HGH to agree the project plan, and clearly define each milestone. We also liaised with the branding agency to come up with a look and feel for the website that would work alongside their offline marketing material and that would look and work effectively on desktop and mobile browsers.
